Girlhood Book Club

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
George Latimer Central Library

Description

The Minnesota History Center is hosting Girlhood (It’s complicated), an exhibit from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Showcasing interactive displays, media components, and over 100 objects from the Smithsonian collection, the exhibit explores how young women have continuously influenced politics, education, work, health, and fashion.

To celebrate the exhibit coming to Saint Paul, the History Center has partnered with the Saint Paul Public Library to host a series of book clubs featuring Minnesota authors who write books about girls.

Our first featured book is Meet Me Halfway, by Anika Fajardo. “When new classmates Mattie and Mercedes meet and realize they have the same Colombian dad, the two team up in a Parent Trap–inspired misadventure to meet him for the first time in this sharp and poignant middle grade novel about the bonds that make a family.”

This book club is best for girl-identifying youth ages 8-12. Check out a copy, purchase your own, or register and stop by any SPPL location to receive a free copy.

Dates/Times:

  • October 17, 6-7 pm at MN History Center (Free Admission to the museum from 4-8 PM)
  • October 19, 2-3 pm at George Latimer Central Library. 2 free passes to the Minnesota History Center to see the exhibit included.
