At six, Vitus is both incredibly talented and wonderfully precocious. When it becomes evident that he has an exceptionally high IQ and can play piano like a young Mozart, expectations run high. His parents love him, his grandfather understands him, but no one knows the truth - that his real genius is in his heart.

This movie is a gem. I am by no means a piano prodigy, but I do know how to play the piano. I was stunned when I learned in the movie's credits that the main character, Vitus, is really playing the piano pieces! Awesome!

This is a 2006 drama written and directed by Fredi M. Murer.
It stars real-life piano prodigy Teo Gheorghiu.
It is a fascinating, engaging and unexpectedly funny story.

What do you do when you’re 12 years old, have an IQ of 180, play piano like a concert master, and your mom is making you crazy with her ambition for you? Well, to start with you hang out with your grandfather and build boomerangs. Then you thwart your mom’s plans every chance you get. Vitus was Switzerland’s official nominee for the 2006 Academy Award for Foreign Films. It stars real-life piano prodigy Teo Gheorghiu as a boy genius who grows weary and resentful of the burden of talent. While young Vitus kicks against his fate, the viewer is treated to breath-taking forays into keyboard virtuosity, including finger-poppers by Bach, Mozart, Liszt, Schumann, Ravel, and Scarlatti ... though truth to tell Vitus only really looks like he’s having fun when he does the boogie-woogie backtrack on his babysitter’s karaoke performance of Tina Turner’s “Nutbush City Limits”.

Beautiful story about the 12-yr old boy who is a gifted piano musician! He just wants to be normal, which is hard to do when he is so very smart! This is a fictional story; yet, this Child is an actual child prodigy in real life! The actors, the scenery, directing were all very well-done! I highly recommend this movie!

This was a good film, not a great film. Maybe something got lost in the translation, as the dialogue seemed lacking. His mother was a piece of work. Still, I kept on cheering for something better for Vitus.
