Cameron is the new kid in school who becomes smitten with the beautiful Bianca. But Bianca's overprotective and domineering father forbids Bianca to date unless her older sister Kat, an surly and hostile senior, does. In a bid to get Kat a boyfriend, Cameron sets up a plan to have the school stud, Joey Donnar, bribe Patrick Verona, an outcast senior with a rumor-filled past, to take Kat out on dates so he can go to the school's homecoming dance with Bianca. However, neither Patrick or Kat expect their relationship to lead to something so much more.

The Taming of the Shrew is one of my least favorite Shakespeare plays, but I love this movie. Come for the Bard references, stay for young Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger.

10 Things I Hate About You/The Taming of the Shrew--not just a coincidence in rhyme scheme. This '90s version is on par to Clueless/Emma filmed a few years prior. Shakespeare sure did have a comeback in that decade.

And the '90s?! If you didn't live it, you sure did miss out. Life before Web 2.0 sure was a special time. Computers, cell phones, and gasoline cars, oh my!

With so many recognizable faces and nostalgic moments, you're bound to enjoy this film.

One of the least mean of all the 90s teen movies.

My favorite use of the song "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" in a film other than The Deer Hunter (1978).

A movie for teens.

I recently rewatched this contemporary spin on Shakespeare's play The Taming of the Shrew // March 31st, 2019 was the twentieth anniversary of its theatrical release! One of the best adaptations ever, and I say that with all my honest youthful hyperbole intact. This film is such a product of the 90s, while being wonderfully progressive and sweet. I still admire and am inspired by Kat Stratford/Julia Stiles, whose biting wit and inner strength are beautifully captured, especially in the scene where she offers a gleeful smile in response to being called a rude word. A modern teen classic that also features breakout roles from the late Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, this movie holds a special place in my heart.

This classic teenage romance film is about Kat, a very intimidating yet intriguing young girl who essentially rejects every teenage boy that crosses her path. Her younger sister is not allowed to get a boyfriend until Kat does, which leads her to meeting a boy named Patrick. He is charming, sweet, and almost irresistible. This movie is a personal favourite of mine and will tug on your heartstrings as you watch the romance between Kat and Patrick form. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars for its sheer nostalgia, and recommend it to those who typically enjoy romance films @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

I don’t like to do what people expect. Why should I live up to other people’s expectations instead of my own?
