The author was fired by NPR when his comments elsewhere were taken out of context and accused i=of bigotry. The book is about the polarization of American life and the subsequent lack of honest debate, listening to others' points of view, respect for different opinions and the art of compromise( now seen as a dirty word, as selling out).
The book resonates here in Canada where there is also a stifling of intellectual debate and shared opinions.

I enjoyed this book. Williams makes valid points, as well as a history of political correctness. Very interesting, and I'd recomend this book to any person interested in free speech issues or political discourse in America these days
