The author is obviously young and inexperienced, but her enthusiasm pushes the book from frustrating to endearing. She is so obviously joyful to be living this adventure and sharing the personal philosophy that brings her happiness, that the reader is inclined to forgive her lack of practical advice and just enjoy the story. The bibliography of resources at the end is a helpful bonus.

Having read a number of these kinds of books, I appreciated the combination of her personal experience with guidance for readers wanting to do the same. While not a "how-to" book in the traditional sense, it definitely offers advice and resources. I especially liked her chapter "Old Stuff," which encourages you to buy things from the thrift store. What I would've liked more of was to see how she balanced her 9-to-5 job with her homesteading.

Funny take on the authors attemps to have a barkyard/urban farm. While there is not much advice in the format of a "How To Guide", there are some small quick little notes. Quite a good read, I couldn't put it down. It is a good starting point for those interested in the subject and want a bit of light reading. I loved the recipies in the "country kitchen" section that I did not expect to be there.

Read this for the mindset & the inspiration. I, for one, am not going to raise my own livestock or vegetables or own sled dogs; but I am interested in beekeeping, sewing & mending, & repurposing.

An "I" book. The author tells about the things she learned to do without actually telling you how to do any of them.

A truly great read for anyone even mildly interested in sustainable living, farming, or just having your own fresh source of eggs right in your backyard. I liked it so much I went out and bought it because I plan to read it again and again. Its also full of some really great resources for additional information on baking your own bread, raising backyard chickens, teaching yourself to play old timey music, and more!

A quick, inspiring read. It was the opposite of preachy, which is sometimes tough to find in this genre.
