Persevere and hold on to follow the characters. Every time the story shifted to another protaganist I had to remind myself who they were and what had transpired several chapters before. It is a common trait of all the Wild Cards novels but not an easy read. I enjoyed it as always however. It will be interesting to see how they handle these books in the t.v. series which they have been promising for more than a year now.

When a story has not only multiple POV characters, but multiple authors, things are bound to get a little uneven. Pacing a problem in this volume the way it wasn't in the first. The first volume was trying to set up the universe, so the stories were more self-contained. This volume tries to introduce an arc, but it isn't handled well across stories. Things that are set up in one story sort of...fizzle out in the next. Still, enjoyable reading.

Sexual Content: Explicit consensual sex in Fortunato's chapter, and explicit, horrifyingly non-consensual sex in the Astronomer's.
