A pair of fast girls court trouble on a slow night in a small town. Lonesome walkers take to the hills in pursuit of a saving embrace. A bewildered man steps off a country bus in search of his identity -- and a stiff drink. A very good collection of very Irish stories.

This collection of short stories cover a lot of different characters. There are glimpses of unhappy lives, dysfunctional marriages, troubled teens. Each story has a distinct setting, be it a farm, an arcade, or bar. “The Penguins” covers an emergency landing in Greenland, and the random conversations the passengers have. Each story is unique, yet the stories do seem to fit together.
