My children and I learned so much from this book about incorporating what we know about wind and how to incorporate that into re-building a city located in a tornado-prone area. Inspiring that they took the challenge of re-building to rebuild well and green.
Two years later, and my children still remember this book. It made a living impression on us.
Very good illustrations, but don't see the connection between tornado and energy efficiency.
What a great find! This is the true story of how a community in Kansas was physically destroyed by a tornado, only to come together and decide to rebuild their town stronger, greener, and better than it was before. In a time where many cities around the world are facing big challenges to adjust their infrastructure in order to become more sustainable, this is a great story to launch a teaching unit on sustainable building design, the power of communities, and local governments, with lots of real-world applications and jumping off points. I hadn't heard of this town before, and I am so glad I discovered this book and now know about the Green City of Greensburg, KS. This is the power of picture books right here!!! I'd recommend this as an older-kid picture book for ages 6 and up, and it is definitely a good idea to read this one and talk about it together.
