Set in Vienna on the eve of World War I, this great novel of ideas tells the story of Ulrich, ex-soldier and scientist, seducer and skeptic, who finds himself drafted into the grandiose plans for the 70th jubilee of the Emperor Franz Josef. This new translation--published in two elegant volumes--is the first to present Musil's complete text, including material that remained unpublished during his lifetime.

The man without Qualities is touted:, “Here it is-at last, at last- the fully fleshed arrival in English, of the third member of the trinity in 20th -century literature, complementing with Ulysses and Remembrance of Things Past. “ -Wall Street Journal. It is true. Stylistically beautiful sentences that seem to unwrap meanings, and deep descriptions of the ordinary. I will have to buy both volumes to re-read and sample over the rest of my life.
