In a world of drones and androids Zen Starling is a human thief, but mostly he just likes to ride the Interstellar Express, the sentient trains that travel through the K gates from planet to planet, something only the Guardians understand--but now the mysterious Raven wants him to steal the Pyxis, an object that could either open up a new gate, challenging the Guardians, or put the entire gate system, and the universe itself in danger.

Wonderfully exciting action that maintains just the right amount of suspense and energy from start to finish. At heart, this is a heist story; it just happens to be set in a universe of wonder: under the adrenaline are fascinating world-building and intriguing characters--of all shapes and sizes, far beyond human. And lurking somewhere in the background are enthralling science fiction considerations that keep simmering into awareness. It's not just action, but intelligent action. With excellently adept, unobtrusive writing. This is a universe I hope to visit again soon.

Sentient space trains! Androids! Technological apotheosis! What more do you want? What more could you need?! Sumptuous writing? Check. POC & queer representation? Double check. A future you could actually get excited about? AW YISS ALL ABOARD~

Railhead is a great new idea in futuristic fiction for teens! Zen Starling is a fantastic character, who just wants to help out his family, but gets drawn into a political game bigger than he could ever imagine. Throw in some space trains and wormholes, and you've got an incredibly engaging plot with action, betrayal, omniscient beings, and chase scenes.

I'm always looking for new Science Fiction that isn't always following the Science Fiction writing equation, and I think Reeve really took it to the next level with this story!

I came for the interstellar trains, and I stayed for the far-out ideas, the diverse characters, and the bang-bang-bang action. So good!

Trains in space - need I say more? Great worldbuilding, wonderful characters (including the trains) and an exciting plot that will keep you up all night reading.

Philip Reeve never fails to write an exciting adventure in an interesting world with unusual characters. I love trains and space, so this was perfect.
