You have to hand it to most modern male romantic protagonists. Practically all of them are willing to step up to the plate and offer marriage when they find their baby mama is expecting or has had a child. Now, if they only knew how to make proper marriage proposals…

Their fumbling efforts form the bases of many a romance novel with children born out of wedlock. Whether it’s theirs or someone else’s, the men need firm lessons in how to propose to a woman. I suppose like taking off your hat in a woman’s presence or standing up when she does, it’s a lost art.

Jean-Pierre Reynaud is a star football player and billionaire who’s discovered the consequences of his heated one-night stand with the lovely Tatiana Doucet. He’s rich but he’s no sheik and thus in no position to force or coerce her into marriage.

His attempts at seduction are lovely and you can understand why Tatiana sucuumbs to them. His private thoughts on the matter are less than palatable, though. He’s one of those take-charge males, used to getting anything he wants once he sets his sights on it. He’s cool and analytical and his plans for getting Tatiana to the altar read less like romance and more like battle strategies. So it’s no wonder she turns him down not just once but twice. Yikes.

Tatiana is fighting her own inclinations towards him only not very hard. She wants to fall for Jean-Pierre again. But…let’s just say Jean-Pierre woke up coyote ugly from their brief liaison and it left a bitter taste in her mouth. She’s nervous about committing to him but not nervous enough to keep from hopping in the sack once her physician says she’s healed enough for sex.

While I was happy at their inevitable reconciliation, I could have wished for less chilliness on his part and less susceptibility on hers.
