For centuries, the Koh-i-Noor diamond has set man against man and king against king.
Now part of the British Crown Jewels, the priceless gem is a prize that many have killed to possess.
So when the Crown Jewels go on display in Mumbai, security is everyone's principal concern. And yet, on the very day Inspector Chopra visits the exhibition, the diamond is stolen from under his nose.
The heist was daring and seemingly impossible. The hunt is on for the culprits. But it soon becomes clear that only one man -- and his elephant -- can possibly crack this case...

Featuring the most charming crime-solving duo ever to grace the pages of a book, the Baby Ganesh Detective Agency series is a must-read for fans of Alexander McCall Smith.

Book two of the Baby Ganesh Agency series. Inspector Chopra has so much work, he is turning clients away, but then HRH's crown is stolen from an exhibit that poppy has forced him to attend. No longer with the police, with no standing at all, Chopra takes on the case to help a former coworker. Poppy has taken a job, Irfan runs into trouble, and Ganesh's situation goes from bad to worse. If that were not enough to give Chopra another heart attack, his mother-in-law has taken over his restaurant. Fun on every page!

I am really enjoying my first experience of author, Vaseem Khan: The Perplexing Theft of the Jewel in the Crown. This is an insightful novel of crime and detection in India. It led me to an interview with the Author on my iPad. It was fascinating to hear how he came to write these books and why he introduced such a unique character as the baby elephant, Ganesha. I look forward to reading the other books in the Series.

I loved this charming novel. The story is written very much in the vein of author Alexander McCall Smith's No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books. Khan's detective is a man named Inspector Chopra who has a baby elephant named Ganesh that assists him in solving his detective cases. I was sorry when the story ended and will certainly read his other novels.
