Very, very clear look at what has happened to NYC in recent years. I know exactly what Moss is griping about here, as I'm someone who has spent a lot of time there over the years when it transformed from run-down and crime-ridden to what now is the opposite extreme, a sterility brought on by big money and political leaders who have pushed for a homogenization of the city. I believe the soul really has gone out of the city.
If there is any weakness to the book, it may be the large amount of familiar complaints Moss brings up. However, he backs his complaining up by using constant examples of what he is talking about. And much of what has happened to NYC has also been happening to other large cities all around the globe. They're all becoming more and more alike. And that is truly sad.
