"This accessible and fun guide to meditation and mindfulness is the perfect introduction for young children Meditation does a body good, and can even help kids as young as four or five. This practical guide is gentle, clear, and a pleasure to use. Kids will learn how to focus on their breath, on the sensations in their body, and on the sounds around them to help them relax, settle their busy minds, and understand their emotions. Illustrated with cheerful drawings of five animal friends, the book offers step-by-step directions and a repeating refrain: "Breathe in, and fill your whole body. Breathe out, and relax your whole body." It's an invigorating first experience of mindfulness that can be shared by parents and children at home, or by teachers and students in the classroom"-- Provided by publisher.

I am working on teaching my child to be more able to identify and verbalize feelings. I feel like it is too acceptable to say “I feel good, bad, mad, happy or sad” and there aren’t many other descriptive terms being used. These 5 things can just so mindlessly be blurted out and don’t often mean much so I have been wanting to find ways to identify feelings like the ache in the tummy... the heart speeding up...the butterflies...feeling like you want to stomp your feet or crunch something up in your hands. These are far more descriptive of what the feeling is overall without giving it a name and having it end there. Books like these are helpful in creating a mindful experience where we can determine when we feel some of those things. My child and I already meditate, but finding the words for our feelings has been our biggest challenge. This book is helpful and the concepts are super important to teach to kids, I believe.

I rarely give any book 5-stars, but this one deserves it. What a great concept to introduce to children! A worthwhile routine to start at home and/or school. In a world of rushed experiences and moments, how positive it is to teach youngsters to slow down and enjoy the moment, and to listen and breathe. I also like how the author summarizes the meditation process in 4 steps at the end of the book. The illustrations by Margarita Surnaite are spot-on. Bravo to the author Mariam Gates!

"Sit, breathe, listen, and relax!" This is such a great book that helps to introduce children to mindfulness and meditation through its hands on exercises and delightful illustrations.
