I loved Lucy Strange's The Secret of Nightingale Wood, so I was eager to read this, her second book. And I think I loved it nearly as much, because pretty much everything about this was wonderful -- the coastal English WWII era setting; the smart, scared, confused protagonist at its heart; and the intriguing wartime mystery that keeps you turning the pages late into the night. It has more of a thriller feel to it than I was expecting from the cover or the back jacket copy, and I was absolutely not expecting it to be as much of a page-turner as it was, but I think kids (and, you know, adults who love children's books about England and lighthouses) will really enjoy this -- and they just might learn something, too.
