This was a fascinating story about a shameful and little known piece of French history. The plot was interesting and it should have been a great novel, however, the story falls a little flat, partly due to characters I didn't really like. The story should have been great. Perhaps if the author left out the "present " and concentrated on Sarah and her struggles it may have worked better. But as it is, I felt like I only got a peek into Sarah and was left feeling like I missed a big chunk of the story. I am glad I read it, learning about that part of history was worth it alone; and I would recommend it if you are out of book ideas; but I wouldn't put it at the top of my list.
