Black History Month: "Black Border Warriors" Further Reading

In conjunction with Black History Month, Rondo Community Library will host a screening of the documentary "Black Border Warriors: The Seminole Negro Indian Scouts." "Black Border Warriors" tells the epic story of a unique group of African-Americans, the Black Seminole. It follows their flight from slavery in Georgia and South Carolina to Spanish Florida where they fought against the U.S. in the Seminole Wars and later were later exiled in Mexico and recruited by the U.S. Army in Texas to from an elite commando unit - the Seminole Negro Indian Scouts - during the Indian Wars in the 1870s and 1880s. These further reading titles offer an opportunity to learn more about the history of Black Seminole Scouts and African Americans in the U.S Military.
